Before assembling the wall, make sure all 144 tiles are flipped face-down. Everyone mixes the tiles by hand to "wash", or shuffle, the tiles.
Each player builds a wall 2 tiles high and 18 tiles long.
Push the four walls together. You can think of the wall as a deck for the whole table.
If this is the first game at the table, everyone rolls the dice and highest roll is the dealer. The dealer then rolls again to determine where to break the wall.
We'll use a dice roll of 8 as an example for the later steps.
The dice roll determines which wall is broken.
Since the dice rolled 8, we count 8 walls counter-clockwise starting with the dealer's side.
The roll also determines where the wall breaks.
Since the dice roll was 8, we count 8 tiles starting from the bottom to determine where the wall breaks.
Starting from the break, the dealer takes 2 stacks (4 tiles) from the wall. Going counter-clockwise, each other player then takes the next 2 stacks.
After 3 rounds, everyone has 12 tiles. Each player then takes 1 more for 13, and the dealer takes a final tile for 14.
Each player, starting with the dealer, replace any flower or season tile with a tile from the tail of the wall.
